Raw Cookie Dough Delights (grain free, naturally sweetened)

I did it again.

I made raw cookie dough balls.

This time I decided to go simple. No chocolate coating

No protein powder

Just plain ol’ chocolate chip cookie dough delights.

Raw Cookie Dough Delights (adapted from Real Sustenance)

3/4 cup almond flour (I used Bob’s Red Mill

3 Tbsp unsweetened shredded coconut

2 Tbsp butter

1 Tbsp coconut flour

1 Tbsp vanilla

1 Tbsp raw honey

1 Tbsp coconut milk

chocolate chips to your heart’s content (I used a 1/2 cup of bittersweet, 60% cocoa)

Mix all of the ingredients together in a bowl, and then roll the dough balls together…It’s so easy it’s dangerous… Definitely a once in a while sweet treat.

HA! Hilarious…that’s exactly how I felt when I saw the original recipe on Real Sustenance…

I just tried making these, and I think there’s an error in the ingredients. Instead of almond meal, I think you meant almond flour. I couldn’t get the balls to stick together very well. I think they would come together better with almond flour.

Thanks for the feedback, Laura. In my experience, almond flour and almond meal have been interchangeable– maybe it’s the type of recipes I’ve made. I would try almond flour and if they still don’t stick together, add a little more coconut flour and a little more coconut milk or vanilla.

I’d love to hear how they turn out! Thanks again for the feedback!

Wow! A friend passed on your recipe to me and I’ve made these cookie dough balls nearly every day for 2 weeks! I use coconut oil and flax seed oil in place of butter and apricots for half the chocolate allowance and it works well. Also I couldn’t find any coconut flour in Singapore, so i just used unsweetened dessicated coconut. Thank you, they’re utter genius!

That’s great, Nikki! Apricots in the place of some chocolate sounds delicious…I may have to try that! OR some dried tart cherries…yum 😉

I just made these for the 1st time with a slight personalization and they were awesome!!! Used coconut oil instead of butter, cacao nibs instead of chocolate chips AND added some cranberries. Delicious!!!

OooO…cacao and cranberries sounds like a good combination…I’ll have to try that after the Winter cleanse is over. Thanks for sharing, Brentt!

can you skip the coconut…my husband hates it – would it still work?

    • Allison April 30, 2013 at 10:19 AM #

Hi Melissa! Yes, you can skip the coconut– I would add a little bit more almond flour to make sure there’s enough dry ingredients. Let me know how they turn out!

Which kind of coconut milk did you use? Did you use the drinking kind or the canned kind? I’m confused about coconut milk because it’s available as a beverage – like almond milk – and also as a canned ingredient. Are they interchangeable? How do I know which coconut milk a recipe is referring to?

    • Allison June 6, 2013 at 10:18 AM #

Hi! Unless I indicate that I used So-Delicious Coconut Milk Beverage, you can assume that I used coconut milk from a can. I prefer the coconut milk in a can because it has less ingredients-usually just coconut, water and guar gum. If you can find a kind without guar gum, that would be best, but I can’t seem to find one in my area.
